When someone you love passes away, we often do not know what do. We would ask you to contact us right away and we will guide you through the process.
When someone dies at home while under medical care, a doctor is required to certify death. If no medical practitioner is in attendance at time of death, then dial 111 and the relevant services required will be notified. You do not need to wait on the doctor attending before contacting us, however we cannot attend until death has been certified.
When someone dies in hospital or nursing home care, the medical staff present will certify death and complete all necessary paperwork. The Medical Certificate of Cause of Death will be issued at a later point. We should then be contacted by either yourself or nursing staff to bring your loved one into our care.
When a sudden or unexplained death occurs in Scotland, the procurator fiscal will be required to carry out an investigation. They will be notified by the emergency services. The deceased will be taken into the care of the Crown Office, however you do not need to wait until the body has been released before contacting us.
As soon as you have contacted us regarding your loved one passing, we shall take them into our care. We shall show them dignity and compassion.
If another Funeral Director has already taken your loved one into their care and establishment, you may still change to your preferred Funeral Director. The preferred Funeral Director will communicate with their fellow Funeral Director and accept your loved one into their care and premises.
